Ulysses S. Grant was born on April 27, 1822. He served in office from March 9, 1864 to March 4, 1869. He also served in the military from 1843 to 1854. He served in every rank of military and fought in both the Mexican American War and The Civil War. He was the 18th president of our country, serving after Andrew Johnson and Abraham Lincoln. As president, he was influential in early civil rights issues and even hosted an Indian Peace Policy meeting.
Grant died from throat cancer on July 23, 1885 at the age of 63. They had an entire steam train devoted to him at his funeral. President Grant has been on the fifty dollar bill since 1913, and he has been on several stamps. The reason why I choose this president was because he is a very important president and he’s my dad’s favorite president.
