Jesus performed many miracles while on the earth. He continues to bless us now, although he is not physically with us. One of the most fascinating miracles that Jesus ever performed, in my opinion, was when he raised Lazarus from the dead. Let me tell you the story.
There was a man, his name was Lazarus. Lazarus was a very sick man. He was from Bethany the same place where Mary and Martha lived. It got to the point were Lazarus was almost dying, therefore the two sisters went out to seek Jesus and see if he could do anything about this painful situation. When they found Jesus they told Him “Lord the one you love is sick” (John 11:3). Jesus replied by saying, “ This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s son of man may be glorified through it.” ( John 11:4) Jesus loved Mary and her sister very much. He cared for Lazarus as well, as a result he stayed in Bethlehem another two days. After this he told His disciples that he wanted to go to Judea, although his disciples warned him not to because there were many people there who disliked Jesus greatly, and wanted to stone him into his death. Jesus did not pay attention and went anyways. While in Judea, Jesus came to the conclusion that Lazarus was dead. He informed His disciples that Lazarus had moved on, and that He was going to go back and awaken Lazarus from the dead. For this reason they all traveled back to Bethany. When Jesus arrived he found out that Lazarus had already been in his tomb for four days. Martha came to Jesus crying and saying “Lord, if you had been here my brother would have not died. But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” (John 11:21-22) Jesus said to her “Your brother will rise again” (John 11:23) Martha said to Him “ I know that he will rise again on resurrection on the last day” ( John 11:24). Jesus replied by saying “I am the resurrection and the life whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”( John 11:25-26) Martha said “ Yes, Lord, I believe that you are Christ, the son of God who is coming into the world.” (John 11:27) . After this Jesus went to the tomb and met Mary there.
When Jesus saw Mary and the others crying he was greatly impacted by this, “Jesus wept.” (John 11:35) Then Jesus went by the tomb and demanded that it would be opened, at first they hesitated because of the smell of Lazarus’s body but agreed at the end. Jesus talked to His Father and said “ Father I thank you that you heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on the account of the people standing around that they may believe that you sent me” (John 11:41-13) Then with a shout Jesus commanded “Lazarus come out” and before you know it, the man that was once dead came out walking and alive!
This amazing miracle, shows God’s power and his unyielding love for humankind although we are truly all sinners and do not deserve it. I believe that God feels are pain when we go through our struggles. When He saw the family of Lazarus suffering he suffered as well and cried. God is a understanding God. He is the one who really understands our struggles. He is also the only one who can cure our broken souls. He has the power to perform any miracle we just need to rely and confine on him just like Martha did.
